Frequently Asked Questions

What is BDS?

Palestinian civil society issued a call for boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against the state of Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. The campaign highlights three central demands. Israel must:
  1. [End] its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands occupied in June 1967 and dismantling the Wall;
  2.  Recognize the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality and
  3. Respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.

What is the GSOC for BDS campaign?

In November 2015 NYU graduate student workers published an open letter to their union, GSOC-UAW 2110, and fellow union members calling for the union to heed the call of Palestinian workers to boycott, divest and sanction the state of Israel. This initiative endorses the broader NYU campaign NYU Out of Occupied Palestine. Nearly 250 graduate student workers at NYU have signed the letter.

What is next for the campaign?

The letter calls on GSOC-UAW 2110 to hold a referendum on the issue of joining the BDS movement.
